Our Not-So-Mainstream Paradise
While bored at the office and was browsing Google maps, I came across this island north of Cebu. I tried to search some details of it and found out that it has this white sand beaches and not so many tourists have gone there. I found a few blogs about the island and I was set.
Since the holy week is fast approaching, which is 2 days holiday. I planned to have three days stay on that island. I tried to invite few friends a possible since this is still an experiment.
We have to ride hours towards the town of Daanbantayan and a 45 minute boatride to get to the island. By the way, this is a fishing island so, the seafoods there were quite cheap although liquors were expensive since they have to ship them from the mainland. At the port, we drank around 3 liters of Beer na Beer just to wait for the boat. The schedule for the trip to Kinatarkan island is around 10 am.
My plan was to camp somewhere where no people were around. But, somebody came and told us we can camp to his place. Sir Willy toured us to his mini paradise and immediately, we stayed there since the place was great! By the way, most of the inhabitants were 7th day Adventists and most of them do not eat seafood without scales (shells, squids etc.)
On the first night, we just cooked some canned goods and slept early. It was full moon that time so, it was very windy. Lucky the tents were unmoved.
The next day we woke up early, had breakfast and planned to bike the whole island which we were not able to make it due to the bikes that we rented in were out of shape and without brakes also due to very hot summer sun.
We just bathed in the other side of the island, Brgy. Bitoon. I think the sands were far better than in Bantayan Island there. I even saw a cow being bathed in the crystal clear waters. We just drank a Tanduay-Iced Tea mixed drink and bathed until noon where the sun got very hot so we decided to go back to Willys Place. We bought 2 kilos of fish since it was very cheap. 1kilo for grilling and the other for kinilaw. We have also ordered some shells or Saang & Tipay for dinner.
That lunch, we ate too much that we are so full, we could not move lol.
In the afternoon, we just drank mixed liquor and chill until nighttime. Perfect timing that the man that we ordered the shellfish got there. And sold us loads of them.
Later, we boiled them in seawater and dipped in spicy vinegar to taste.
That night, we had this feast along with Sir Willy and his wife, Elsa. Had few stories and a videoke session at their house. But as always, we have to wait for 6pm for the electricity. In the island, the electricity only comes at 6pm and goes out at around 1am so basically, its blackout the whole day in the island. So no noontime shows for you guys.
The next day, we have to wake up early since the boat trip to the mainland was 8am. We were somewhat ontime on the boat to the mainland.
Another 45minute trip to the mainland. Then, decided to go to Bogo City for some Jollibee for lunch and I have to get cash. Once done, we headed towards the terminal bound for Cebu City. But it was crowded and the queue was too long.
So I decided to get a bus bound for Hagnaya which was quite near from Bogo because once it gets there, it immediately goes back to Cebu City but with extra price of course. Got the airconditioned bus and we were set.
Well that was quite a ride and one of the best vacation ive gone so far. We had fun and planned to go back to the island sometime in October since sir willy and our girlfriends birthday falls on October. We will bring down the funny turkey.
We will be going back there to explore further. Like the cove with lots of seaweeds and the cave full of bats.
