Climbing One of the Hardest Mountains in the Philippines! (Mt. Guiting-Guiting)

Image
Yep, my dream finally came true! To be able to climb one of the deadliest and the hardest mountain in the Philippines. Actually, I never did any training. My last training climb was i think, 2 months ago which is in Babag mountain range in Cebu. I did carry good amount of weight and so far, the climb was awesome! Although we did not encounter heavy rains on the trail. That would be another story. We slept on Mayo's peak on the first night. I did not setup my tent because it was humid. I just lay a tarp then, my sleeping pad. There were lots of wild cats around the areas. lol The second day was the most exhausting. we have to cross the "knife edge" which was awesome. The view was spectacular! I was expecting more on the "Kiss the Wall" but I was not impressed. Maybe it was scarier before? I don't know. The 90 degree climb was also exhausting although I did carry my 12-kilo backpack in climbing it. Lucky it was only rated 9/9 that time, because when...

Calicoan Surfing Again!

Image
I was able to visit Calicoan Island, Eastern Samar last September 11-13, 2015. It has been a long time since I last went there . That was before the devastating Category 5 Super Typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda) . Now everything has changed. I think even the reef! It was smooth this time so, no more sharp rocks on the way to the lineup! Waves of Calicoan

Everyone's First Time in Mount Pulag: The Playground of the Gods

Image
Last March of 2011, we scheduled a climb after our Mount Apo trip. Many of us joined and excited to hike the Philippines' "third highest" and one of the most magnificent sunrise. From Cebu, took a plane to Manila where we were met by our Guide, Migs of Yabag Mountaineers. Since he said we have not enough time, we went directly to the Victory Liner bus station and booked some tickets to Baguio City.

Leyte's Highest: Alto Peak / Mount Amindiuen

Image
On June 20-21 2015, I was invited by a friend in Palompon to join the Unity Climb organized by Ormoc Mountaineering groups. the groups Katkat, Nuloc and Terra. There are two itineraries so one group can visit Mt. Janagdan Lake while the others scale Alto Peak or Mount Amindiuen. This would be my first time scaling this peak even though I am from Leyte. Mount Maculot Rockies Night Trek

Image
After a good night at Mount Batulao, we immediately went down towards the jump-off point using the old trail this time. Met some day hikers and drank some expensive buko juice. Once we arrived on the restaurant where everyone meets from the hike, we took a shower since there were shower rooms there and I might have forgotten the price for it. lol... After the quick shower, we ate our breakfast and lunch and got on a bus going back to Dasmariñas Cavite. Robert sent us to the nearest van-for-hire terminal bound for Lipa City. He will not be joining us on the Maculot trek. And it rained so hard that time. We will be getting of on na town with a junction going towards Cuenca and to Mount Maculot Jumpoff. He told us that guides are not necessary. The Mount Maculot View

Crowded Mount Batulao Hike

Image
After our accent in Mount Pico de Loro and the long wait for any tricycle or busses, we headed to some quiet Baranggay full of Bisaya .. lol.. I somehow forgot the name of the place. We had our late lunch there and decided to stay there for the night then we changed our minds and headed straight to Roberts place in Dasmariñas. Mount Batulao

A Bugs Life in Mt. Pico de Loro

Image
A supposed trip to Sagada (again) but in the last minute, we decided to scale some of South Luzon Peaks. This was a free round trip airfare by our officemate / fellow outdoorsman, Rody. And that time he was not feeling well. It was on July of 2013 and our first peak of three was Mt. Pico de loro of Ternate, Cavite. Are you the parrots beak?

Paraiso: a hidden paradise in Palompon, Leyte

Image
Paraiso of Palompon, a view from above While everyone is going to Coron, Palawan to see the famous limestone cove, there is a similar spot in Palompon but without the big limestone cliffs and the crystal clear water and yeah its far from Coron's beauty but very much cheaper. People call it Paraiso a hidden paradise. It is just a few

Unexpected Journey to Kalinga

Image
Not THAT Mainstream Eh? I know there are lots of blogs out there with more details and went as planned. But this one, is different. Its more like an unplanned trip where everything is unexpected. Yep this one is one of those travel journals where we got tattooed by Apo   Whang-Od,  the last  Mambabatok of Buscalan. A Scenic View near the road close to Chico River on the way to Bugnay It started as a solo trip until some friends wanted to tag along. I told them not to tell everyone so that the whole Baranggay will not tag along which means more liabilities, hard to find transportation to accommodate all 10000 passengers and I want this to be a chill trip. Only 3 of us booked a flight to Manila (from Cebu) on the 27th of December 2014.

Back to Mount Manunggal

Image
While Cebu City was still shaking due to aftershocks last October 2013, we decided to go camping in one of Cebu's popular campsite. Although I have been there a dozen times, I still enjoy the trek with the company of some closest friends. Angel, Andrew & I decided to go there. This time, it was a birthday trek. Ahh.. celebrating life every year.  A & A I decided that we do a dusk-night trek since I am confident and knows the w

Solo Hike to Babag Mountains

Image
There was nothing else to do on a sunday. So I decided to take a solo hike to Mt Babag. I wanted to test myself on how much time it would take for me to hike from Guadalupe up to Babag. I think I finished it around 1.5 hours.

Travels: Sagada, Mountain Province

Image
After the Batad experience, we decided to see what Sagada has to offer. Until now, something in Sagada is trying to pull me back there. Maybe the food, nature, the cold? I don't know. But sometime soon, I will go back there. That Old Pine Tree  Sagada seen from the cemetery area.  That Bisdak Blogger trying trying the holy week pose.

Travels: Batad, Ifugao

We spent two days exploring this parts including the famous Tappiya falls and trying the betel nut chewy things. Rice Terraces along the highway Suspension Bridge Banaue View Ram! Wara to Waya Chronicles (Surf Searching Part 3)

Image
Home  (continued) This is the continuation and the final leg of the Wara to Waya Chronicles. For two days, i was still at my hometown for my flu to be fully healed. But a shitty thing happened, I lost my voice! due to harsh sore throat I got in Samar. Although I drank lots and lots of ginger tea. I was invited by my friend to come visit their place in Cantilan, Surigao del Sur for a fiesta. I was still feverish when I took a Van to Ormoc City. Now this is an adventure! No Turning Back I got to Ormoc City and rode another Van for hire bound for Maasin City. My initial plan was when i get to Maasin, I will get a bus to Liloan, Leyte and from there, I will ride a Ro-Ro towards the port of Lipata in Surigao del Norte. But when I got to Maasin, some dude told me to ride a bus to San Ricardo because its faster there. Now I have to go back to Bato, Leyte and into San Ricardo which took me a half day to get there. I arrived San Ricardo Port at around 9pm and still feeling f...
