Long Way Home: Part III

Long way home continued... (Legazpi to Leyte)see also (LWH: I), (LWH: II)

Day 3: Samar

I didn't have that much sleep since I have to wake up kind of early just to catch the earliest van to Guiuan. Woke up at around 5:30, checked out and headed to the terminal. Had my breakfast there. It was pretty early that I was the only one inside the van and has to wait for more passengers for the van to go. That was 2hours waiting. Then, at around 8am, off I go to Guiuan.
Arrived at around 11am. Headed to the nearest and kind of a cheap pension/lodge at around 250 a night for a single person. Had my lunch and met these surfer guys there. I know where they were heading which is in Sulangan, the surf spot. They had this huge ass van. Well, they said they will take me to the spot with them. They were from Borongan Eastern Samar. Well, some of them were from Cebu, Ice and his cousin were invited for some christening in Borongan. At least there is someone that speaks my dialect.

We arrived at the spot and met all these surfer guys from parts of the Philippines. They will be competing for the 1 week surfing competition that will be held in Calicoan Island. Met new friends there and was able to get a few good surfing shots. I wish to go back to the spot the next day but the weather was not friendly. I may not be able to continue my trip to Leyte. I'd really love to stay for the next 3 days there but forget it.

Went back to Guiuan with Ice, Anjo & Derek. They will be heading back to Tacloban for some feast while they dropped me to my rented room in Guiuan. Had a good night sleep.. A very good night sleep... Until I got damn hungry at midnight. Lucky Andok's was still open. After loading my stomach, I went back to sleep.

Day 4: Samar-Leyte Area

Then it was morning. Found a nice restaurant with good breakfast. I wasn't enjoying the budots-budots music in front of the restaurant. I then headed to the nearest van terminal to get to Tacloban (again)... That's another 3 hour trip! And... rode another 3-hour van for hire ride for Palompon (my home town)...

But then, it rained so damn hard that the road was flooded and the driver didn't want to continue because he's afraid he might damage something from the van. It was kind of brand new but well... After an hour of staring at the flooded road, there was this old school homemade big ass truck/bus for hire and is heading for Palompon! Well, this was my chance. I got out of the van and went into the truck. And away I go. I got home at around 3pm and greeted with a home-cooked meal... Yeah...

But wait... Theres more!
Day 5: Cebu Bound
I was able to wake up early and said goodbye to my parents. I wasn't able to visit my grandmothers house since I'm in a hurry to catch the 8am Ro-Ro boat ride to Bogo, Cebu. The boat was kind of slow and it arrived on the port of Polambato, Bogo in 2.5 hours. I am now in Cebu! But I have to take another 3 hour bus ride to get to Cebu City! But hey, I arrived in Cebu safely and kind of satisfied. I will now wake up the next day back to work and in my cellblock.

I wish I could do more solo backpacking around the Philippines. This time, I'll do the opposite side or the west coast.
