My Fixed Gear Bike
Steel frame, no brakes, fixed gear!
Fixed Gear.. Runs on Beer Belly In Palompon, Leyte |
Ever since I first laid my eyes on those beauties, something inside me to get one and yes I got one.
Bridge Crossing |
Then the worst thing happened! I watched the movie Premium Rush in which the protagonist was an NY messenger was using a fixed gear bicycle! I need to get one! lol
Bridge |
While searching for surplus/stolen parts somewhere near downtown Cebu City together with my friend, I finally found her! The rustiest looking road bike frame that I have ever seen. I only bought the frame and a few hard to find parts in the surplus store since other parts can now easily bought at some bike shops.
Somewhere in Mandaue |
In under two weeks, the bike was finished! Now I can ride like a messenger! I had a hard time riding the bike at first because I used to ride folding bikes and mountain bikes which you can coast. But not in fixed gear. You have to pedal every time and the braking mechanism is to pedal backwards to skid.
Even the worst roads |
What I love about it is its simplicity and minimalist. Well, that's my personal preference though. You can ride any bike you like. :)
My next plan is to tour around my hometown Leyte. But I still have a hard time climbing slopes since it is a single speed. And a very hard time rolling downhill. lol
