Another part of my unexpected adventure!

Parting ways

While everyone was going straight to Tacloban City then to our hometown Palompon, I decided to take another route which was from the town of Dolores to Borongan City on a Jeepney. The most convenient ride so far… Not! I have to ride more than two hours of sometimes paved roads and sometimes rocky, sometimes wet, and even bumpy. I sat next to a sleepy old man and whenever he fell asleep, he simply tilts his head in my shoulder… That was sweet! Lol

I arrived at Borongan City Eastern Samar in one piece and unscathed. Hailed a pedicab to the nearest terminal bound for Guiuan Eastern Samar.  But when I got there, the ones going to Guiuan were rusty old school jeepneys. These ones might be used since World War II lol and what made it worst is the trip from Borongan to Guiuan will be a grueling 5 hours nonstop! No way! Im riding a van for hire (v-hire) this time.

I checked the time and it was already 12pm. I only ate skyflakes crackers and some water. I will eat my lunch in Guiuan. I slept the whole ride and nearly missed the crossing to Guiuan. Got out of the van, and waited for several minutes at the crossing.

To Guiuan

At last I got a ride to Guiuan but it was not a quick ride. I think around an hour or so but I slept the whole trip since there were a few of us inside and I can lie down.

I arrived at Guiuan and headed to the nearest Andok’s and continued my lunch there.  But wait this is not my destination yet. I have to ride another jeepney to Sulangan to be able to meet with my friends.

At frikkin last, I arrived at the Calicoan Villas Resort. The pool was inviting but I will have to dive later. As expected they were all at the sea surfing those beautiful glassy waves. It was their third day there but the good waves just came.

I met some of them, RJ, Emily, Jane and all… we had Hi’s and Hellos. At dinner, we all went to Andoks (again). I have to sleep early since I have a very long day but first, we will watch a surf movie! No alcohol for now…

Surf Sessions

For around 3 days, all we did was surfing in the morning, had breakfast in the best restobar in town Andoks!  Went back surfing then ate our lunch in the best restobar in town. A little rest then hit the pool for an hour while waiting for the swells. Head back to the sea to surf again.

You gotta love the waves :)

I got a few good waves but mostly a lot of wipeouts.
Since I have no board, I have to wait for them to paddle back to shore and rest. Damn, should have bought my board!

During nighttime, we had a few beers, watch surf or sometimes kung-fu movies. Sleep early for early surf sessions in the morning.

Myohos

Emily was invited to come over at Myohos and we tagged along. First time we visited at his place was 2009. A lot has changed he has news stuff now including some paddle boards, kayaks and a new hut near the shore. He even showed us the bird nest in his garden. Lol

Rodney was an Australian that fell in love with the Tropical Island beach, the Pacific waves and the local wahine from Sulangan Ms. Rose. I usually check his facebook page for wave updates on the area since he took pictures and give forecasts.

I also noticed a foreign guy living near the resort that we have checked in. No, he was not living in an Indonesian style hut but a tent. It was covered behind some thick bushes to protect it from the strong pacific winds. I have seen him before when I was visiting the spot last year. But wait there’s more he also has kids and probably a wife living in his tent. I never had a chance to get his name but we met at the lineup. He is a good longboard rider. I guess the love of the surf, the beaches and the pretty tropical island girls brought him here. And yeah, he can speak a few waray words.

There and Back Again

Time was kind of fast and the third day came, I have to go back home for the day since I will be on another journey to Surigao!

I hitched a ride from the Resort to Guiuan. This one is different, he was sending some fishes and he rides like a damn lightning! I was holding tight in his motorcycle and my dear life hoping not to fall. Tears fell from my eyes involuntarily from the strong winds. Oh man, I think he was riding 350kph and got to Guiuan in 10 minutes. LOL

I took another three-hour Van for hire ride to Tacloban City (P150). Once I got to Tacloban, I rode a mini bus to Carigara (P30) to get the knife that I designed which was forged there. The blacksmith really copied my design and for that, I’m happy.

I wasn’t able to get a ride from Carigaga to Palompon since most of the vans were already full. So I decided to get a ride to Libungao Junction and from there, there are lots of vans coming from Ormoc City that passes there. I was able to ride to Palompon but the wait is long (P60).

Home

I got home in time for dinner! I packed my bags again for the journey to Surigao. But I got sick and had tonsillitis, colds and a slight fever. Maybe this is from my hyperacidity days in Can-avid. I stayed for more than two days in Palompon resting.

To be Continued…
